That would create inefficiencies I prefer to avoid. Without the Evernote Web Clipper, I would use 5 or 6 other technologies to replace Evernote, fragmenting my data across platforms. The Evernote Web Clipper is what makes Evernote Different.

The fact that Evernote made my data available to me on every device, on every platform, with outstanding search capabilities, for free, was mind blowing.Įvernote has since evolved to include more than 71 Note features, including annotation with Skitch, Notebook sharing, and Presentation mode to name a few. Evernote was starting to fill with valuable bits of data and becoming a personalized database. Now I was conducting web research in the 21st century. Further, I could add Tags to Notes and save them to a Notebook, all which added depth and context to the web pages I was saving.

That I could, with 1 click, save and preserve web pages, and add my notes about the web page for future reference was a defining moment. I tried the Web Clipper and realized the power of Evernote. So like many others, I abandoned Evernote on my first attempt in 2008.Ģ009 is when I had my Green Light bulb moment. However, as I stared blindly at the blank canvas of Evernote, I had no direction or understanding of what to do with another Text Editor. I saw there was value in the application. Like most people, I did not grasp Evernote the first time I tried it. The Web Clipper was what got me hooked on Evernote in 2009. Hearing recently that many are still conducting their internet research this way was surprising. I’d still be PDF’ing web pages and dragging pictures off of websites into a Word Documents. Without it, I would use Google Docs and Dropbox for my web research. I create at least 40% of my new notes with the Web Clipper. Evernote does 5 or 6 things great and 5 or 6 things well and 1 thing no one else does, clip web pages. Other applications are text editors, personal databases or wiki’s that store your personal data. It is the Evernote Web Clipper that makes Evernote unique. Then it hit me, the Evernote Web Clipper. But search is only great if you have data to search. It is not the stellar text editor features. Then I started to ponder what was most important to me about Evernote? What makes it special, that if it went away, I would feel the pain? It is not the task management or CRM capabilities of Evernote. Can any other application tag notes and offer a native cross platform experience? I am not up to date with all the text editor apps. I am not familiar with the competitor note taking apps. I was recently asked: “What software would I use to replace Evernote?”įor a moment I thought, that is a challenging question, I do not know the current marketplace well.
